Groundbreaking ceremony for modern NETZSCH Application Center Selb

On July 10, 2025, the starting signal was given for another NETZSCH Group flagship project: the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Application Center of the Grinding & Dispersing business unit marks the beginning of the first construction phase of the planned NETZSCH Campus in Selb. A state-of-the-art location for research, development and technological innovation will be created here by the end of 2026. Alongside representatives from the local political scene, specialist planners and employees of the site, the NETZSCH family of entrepreneurs is demonstrating a clear commitment to growth, innovation and the local community.

In perfect summer weather, Moritz Netzsch and Paul Netzsch (Managing Directors and shareholders), Jens Niessner (Managing Director and CFO) and Ingo Rädisch (CEO Business Unit Grinding & Dispersing) welcomed the guests in the NETZSCH canteen. The ceremony took place directly on the construction site of the new campus. Among the political representatives were State Secretary of Finance Martin Schöffel, District Administrator Peter Berek and Ulrich Pötzsch, Mayor of Selb. Also present were the NETZSCH Group shareholders: Sabine Schaefer, Antonia Schaefer (standing in for Otto Max Schaefer), Luis Schaefer (standing in for Felix Schaefer), Christian NETZSCH and Dr. Claudia NETZSCH. Colleagues from the NETZSCH companies in Selb accompanied this special moment.

'When a medium-sized company invests 70 million euros in its location, it demonstrates a powerful commitment to the company itself, its employees, and Germany as an industrial location,' said Martin Schöffel, State Secretary at the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home Affairs.

Plenty of room for big plans

A two-storey application centre for food, pharmaceutical, chemical and battery technology applications will be built in two phases on the 24,000-square-metre site, followed by a modern administration building. The NETZSCH Group is investing around 70 million euros in the project, including the energy yard, which is already under construction.

'The NETZSCH Group has been part of our city's history for 150 years. This construction project is a milestone for Selb, strengthening the economy and promoting social cohesion,' said Ullrich Pötzsch, the city's Lord Mayor.

Technological lead with vision

Constant growth in the demand for process reliability, hygiene and product customisation requires new solutions, and NETZSCH is meeting these challenges with a clear vision. In the new Application Centre, practical customer trials will be possible under real conditions in future — efficiently, sustainably, and with technology at the highest level. NETZSCH will also be the first mechanical engineering company to have its own application area for active battery masses. The new building will bring together the existing application areas of the Grinding & Dispersing business unit and provide space for seminars, meetings, measurements and social interaction. The building is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2026.

'Our employees often stay with us for their entire working lives — they are our greatest treasure. This loyalty creates stability and invaluable knowledge, which we pass on through our strong training,' said Ingo Rädisch, CEO Business Unit Grinding & Dispersing.

Thinking about sustainability right from the start

The new building is being planned and implemented using state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technologies - with the aim of making it largely self-sufficient. The consistent focus of the entire NETZSCH Campus Selb on sustainability and energy efficiency runs through all phases of the project: from planning and execution through to subsequent operation. A central element is the energy yard, which is already under construction and will take over the overall energy management for the site in future. The use of renewable energies in combination with the recovery of process energy is a key component of the decarbonization strategy. The aim is to use resources responsibly and sustainably not only during operation, but also during the construction phase and throughout the entire life cycle of the building.

'The new NETZSCH Application Centre represents our technological excellence and our commitment to sustainable construction. We use environmentally friendly technologies to ensure the building is operated efficiently and in a way that conserves resources,’ explained Ferdinand Hümmer, Project Manager of the NETZSCH Campus Selb.

With the NETZSCH Campus in Selb, the NETZSCH Group is sending a strong signal for the future - at its headquarters in the region and far beyond.
