NETZSCH achieves first CSRD-compliant sustainability report with the help of Lufthansa Industry Solutions
The NETZSCH Group has published its inaugural comprehensive sustainability report, which is compliant with the CSRD. Although the company is not yet required to report, NETZSCH has chosen to take the initiative. The report details the measures already implemented, planned investments and areas for improvement. A third-party audit confirms full compliance with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and the ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards).
From challenge to structure
The initial situation was challenging, involving diverse data sources, legal requirements, and a lack of comparative values. Therefore, the focus of the partnership with LHIND was not just on producing a report, but also on establishing a robust, forward-looking sustainability management system. Targeted workshops, structured processes and in-depth specialist knowledge were used to implement key building blocks in a short space of time:
- Performance of an audit-proof double materiality analysis
- Preparation of an auditable EU taxonomy report based on taxonomy-compliant revenue, capex and opex
- First-time recording and validation of selected Scope 3 emissions
- Development of a holistic ESG strategy with specific, measurable targets
- Calculation of the product carbon footprint (PCF) for a pilot product
- Development of a sound carbon management system including climate risk and resilience analysis and climate transition plan
- Complete implementation of the CSRD requirements
Sustainability structurally anchored:
NETZSCH laid the foundation for long-term success with the targeted development of internal sustainability expertise and the structural anchoring of corresponding processes. The focus was on the methodically sound transfer of knowledge in the areas of Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), CSRD and EU taxonomy as well as the clear definition of roles and responsibilities in sustainability management.
The fact that each project phase was a complete success can be seen in the concrete results: Together with the Lufthansa subsidiary, the NETZSCH Group's sustainability team developed a double materiality analysis that was convincing in terms of content and at the same time met the highest standards of auditability and traceability. In the area of EU taxonomy, a structured, practical data collection process was created from initially limited knowledge, resulting in a verifiable and meaningful report. With the help of user-friendly tools and individual coaching, a CSRD-compliant climate scenario analysis was also developed - with a methodology that can be used independently within the company in the future. Another important milestone was the development of a complete CO₂ reporting system that systematically records and validates selected Scope 3 emissions for the first time.
'The joint workshops added real value: Lufthansa Industry Solutions explored our topics in depth in terms of content, strategy and operations. This helped us make tangible progress, enabling us to forge our own path," says Johann Vetter, Head of Sustainability Management at the NETZSCH Group.
At the same time, sustainability has been consistently anchored in the corporate strategy and vision. The clear and united commitment of the global management is particularly noteworthy - a strong signal!
The Sustainability Report will be published on the NETZSCH Group website on September 25, 2025.
